25TH (TROPIC LIGHTNING) INFANTRY DIVISION

Stationed at Osaka, Japan, during the occupation, the 25th Infantry Division began deploying to Korea on 10 July 1950, with all units arriving by 18 July 1950. It went into combat almost immediately. Like all other U.S. divisions, it suffered setbacks in its first few engagements but went on to have an excellent combat record. The division was in Korea until October 1954, when it redeployed to Hawaii.

The division consisted of:

(Note: When the war first began, 1st and 3rd Battalions of the 29th Infantry Regiment, then stationed on Okinawa, were sent to the 25th Infantry Division in Korea where they became the 3rd Battalions of the 27th and 35th Infantry Regiments.)
